Standard Resistors That Are Produced

Now preferred values for resistors and other electronic components are defined in the international standard iec 60063. Resistors are produced in standard values to simplify manufacturing purchasing handling and designing processes.

Standard resistors that are produced. Standard resistors are extremely high accuracy resistors used as reference to calibrate or check the accuracy of other resistors in industry or establishments on the production lines or equipment. While passive electronic components like capacitors inductors and resistors can be manufactured to have almost any value in practice most are produced in standard values. Most standard resistors are commonly produced in an axial lead style.

The preferred values for electronics are defined in e series. Mis 9331s are small light and rugged resistance standards that do not require a temperature controlled oil or air bath for their specification range. Soon after resistors became mass produced a system with preferred values was developed to minimize the number of different sizes that had to be produced.

These are also used to check accuracy of resistan. For conventional resistors the tolerances are 20 e6 10 e12 5 e24 2 e48 and 1 e96. The leads extend out horizontally from the body of the part.

The preferred number series produces a spacing that relates component values to their tolerances. These parts are used in thru hole pcb designs. Standard values are multiples of 10 15 18 22 27 33 47 51 68 75 82 and 91.

Resistors are manufactured with a certain tolerance. Standard air resistors our high accuracy working standard air resistors are used for precision resistance calibrations for values from 1 mw to 100 mw. These standard resistor values have a logarithmic sequence related to the component accuracy enabling the standard resistor values to be spaced according to the tolerance on the component.

Standard resistor values in 1952 the iec international electrotechnical commission decided to define the resistance and tolerance values into a norm to ease the mass manufacturing of resistors. These are referred to as preferred values or e series and they are published in standard iec 600631963.
